This Friday Evening, June 8 – Many Guests from Overseas, and Blessing for Tamuz Birthdays:

This Friday evening, June 8, we will have many guests from overseas: overseas member Rabbi Paul Cohen (pictured) and 45 members of our sister congregation Temple Jeremiah in Northfield, Illinois, and Rabbi Alexandra Wright and 20 members of her congregation – the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in London, England.


During the service, in honor of Shabbat Mevarchin, we will invite to the bima all those born in the coming Hebrew month of Tamuz for a special blessing under our congregation's chupah.



Please note: due to the large number of expected guests, we ask our members to arrive before 6 PM.  Seats will be saved in the front section (on the cantor's side) for our members till 6:15 PM.


This Saturday Morning, June 9:

This Saturday morning, June 9, Har-El member Cantor Prof. Eliyahu Schleifer will officiate at services together with Rabbi Ada (Cantor Evan will have the morning off).  Har-El member Yael Tulaikova will serve as our Torah reader.


Final Torah Class for 5778, Monday, June 11:

The final parashat hashavua (weekly Torah study) class with Rabbi Ada for 5778 will be held on June 11 at 11:30 AM.  The class will restart following the 5779 Tishre Holidays.


A Joint Fundraising "Garage Sale" with the Shovach Preschool in Har-El's Courtyard, Tuesday, June 12:

On Tuesday, June 12, from 4:15 PM-6 PM, a "garage sale" will be held to raise funds for a family from the Shovach preschool whose child was stricken with a difficult illness.
We therefore would appreciate if you would bring to the garage sale second-hand items such as clothes, art, and other housewares, and purchase items as well.  Those interested in bringing items to be sold and for more details are asked to contact our administrator, Shany, at 053-6499584 or at


For Our Members - Har-El's Annual General Meeting, Wednesday, June 13:

The congregation's annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 6 PM in the sanctuary in order to confirm the 2017 balance sheet and elect the va'adat habikoret (audit committee).  Please click here to read the agenda (in Hebrew) for the meeting.  Your presence is important!

On Saturday morning, June 23 at 11:30 AM, following services and Kiddush, Har-El member, Cantor Prof. Eliyahu Schleifer will give a lecture in Hebrew titled: "Beautiful Jewish Traditions and Beloved Texts Created as a Result of Mistakes".

Events of the Past Week:


The Israeli Reform Movement's Biennial at Kibbutz Shefayim:

This past weekend, June 1-2, the Israeli Reform Movement held its biennial convention at Kibbutz Shefayim.  During the opening ceremony, special mention was made of Har-El and Israeli Reform Movement founders Avital and Prof. Schalom Ben-Chorin, following her passing this year.
Likewise, a short video clip of the activities of "Keren B'chavod" (our movement's social justice fund) was shown, which included our congregation's activity during Chanukah with the elderly residents of the Lev Ha'ir community center.  Please click here to see the video (which includes English subtitles).

Bnot Mitzvah from the USA at the Egalitarian Kotel :

On Monday, June 4, Maya Bolles was called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah.  Her older sister, Leah, also celebrated her bat mitzvah through our congregation in 2014.


On Thursday, June 7,
Ellie & Sara Grossman were called to the Torah as bnot mitzvah.
